    Child Support Grant

    Applicants are expected to satisfy the criteria outlined as follows:

    • The primary caregiver must be a refugee, a South African citizen, or a long-term resident.
    • Both the applicant and the child must possess South African citizenship.
    • The applicant must be the child’s primary caregiver.
    • The child or children in question must be under the age of 18.
    • Both the candidate and their spouse must meet the means test criteria.
    • A maximum of six children can be sought for assistance without biological parenthood.
    • The child cannot be cared for in a public institution.

    Foster Child Grant

    Applicants are expected to fulfill the criteria listed as follows:

    • Foster parents must hold South African citizenship, refugee status, or long-term residency.
    • Both the petitioner and the child must be South African citizens.
    • The foster parent(s) must have obtained legal custody of the child for the duration of the grant.

    How to apply for SRD grant applications

    Applicants have three options to utilize in the online application process for the Social Relief of Distress Grant (SRD), and these include:

    APPLICATION VIA WHATSAPP

    Follow the instructions listed below to apply for the SRD award via WhatsApp.

    • If you wish to apply, send a WhatsApp message to 082 046 8553.
    • Any confidential information requested during the chat must be supplied by the applicant.
    • The applicant will receive a reference number, an OTP number, and a website link.
    • The candidate must select “verify” after clicking the link and entering their OTP.
    • Both the applicant’s ID number and last name are required.
    • The applicant confirms the accuracy of the information shared during the chat.
    • Proceed to Step 2, where you can acknowledge the terms and conditions.

    APPLICATION THROUGH WEBSITE

    • Open a new browser tab using Google Chrome, Mozilla, Opera Mini, or another browser of your choice.
    • In the address bar, type https://srd.sassa.gov.za to access the website.
    • After entering their ID and phone number, the applicant should click the “Send SMS” button.
    • The applicant will receive a 6-digit OTP.
    • The applicant needs to input the OTP number and select a PIN to validate the process.

    • Open a new tab in your web browser. You can access the website www.sassa.gov.za online.

    • The applicant will provide their ID number and phone number.
    • The candidate will select the conversation option “I want to apply for the SRD R350 grant.”
    • The chatbot will provide a link to the SRD website.
