Application for Student Residence and Cancellation Introduction

The college residences provide a supportive learning environment, serving as a home away from home for students from diverse backgrounds. The residences foster a healthy and educational atmosphere, where students can coexist and enjoy fundamental rights. To be admitted to the residence, a student must meet all the college’s admission requirements as outlined in the PE College Code of Conduct.

Residence Admission and Re-admission

Residence spaces will be allocated to all students who meet the admission requirements for PE College. Admission and re-admission applications will be reviewed on a trimester, semester, and annual basis. All students, including those who were residents the previous year, must apply for re-admission following the prescribed procedure. Re-admission to the residence is contingent upon settling the student’s account in full. Applicants with outstanding fees will not have their space reserved. First-time applicants and re-admission requests for previous-year residents must be submitted on separate forms.

Admission Criteria

Academic Performance

First-year applicants’ average scores will be used to determine their admission by Academic Admissions. Senior applicants must have passed a predetermined number of subjects as determined by the college and bursars to be considered for re-admission to the residence.

Distance

If the demand for residence exceeds availability, preference will be given to applicants living outside the Nelson Mandela Metropole. Applicants within the Metropole may also be considered under specific circumstances:

  • Disability applicants within the Metropole may request an exemption from the distance requirement by submitting a written request to the Student Support Services Registrar, who will forward it to the Vice-Principal of Education and Training Services.
  • Applicants living within the Metropole, facing intolerable living and learning conditions, may seek exemption from the distance requirement by submitting a written request to the Student Support Services Registrar, along with evidence of their living situation.

Previous Residence Conduct and Disciplinary Records

  • Residence selection for re-admission applications will consider the applicant’s previous residence conduct and disciplinary records. The Hostel Superintendent’s recommendation may result in the denial of further residential privileges for the applicant.
  • In cases where the demand for residence accommodation exceeds available space, special consideration will be given to minor applicants between the ages of 17 and 20.
