For the 2024-2025 academic year, Midrand Graduate Institute (MGI) offers both undergraduate and graduate programs that can be applied for online. While the application requirements may vary depending on the program, the general prerequisites are as follows:

  • Academic qualifications: All applicants must have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent qualification with an endorsement that meets the program’s minimum requirements. Some programs may have additional requirements, such as specific subjects or a minimum grade point average (GPA). Applicants with qualifications obtained outside of South Africa may need to provide a certificate of equivalence from the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA).
  • Application fee: To submit an application, a non-refundable application fee must be paid. The amount of the fee varies by program and can be paid online using a credit card, debit card, or electronic funds transfer.
  • Additional documents: Applicants must submit certified copies of their identity documents, passports, and academic transcripts to be considered for a program. These documents can be uploaded during the online application process.
  • Academic Points Score (APS): MGI uses the APS system, which calculates points based on the final grades obtained in the 12th grade, to determine eligibility for some programs. The APS is calculated by adding points for the six best subjects (excluding Life Orientation). The distribution of points for each subject is as follows: 7 for 80 percent and higher, 6 for 70-79 percent, 5 for 60-69 percent, 4 for 50-59 percent, 3 for 40-49 percent, and 2 for 30-39 percent. It is important to check the MGI website for the specific APS requirements of your desired program, as they may vary.
  • English proficiency: Applicants who do not have English as their first language may need to demonstrate proficiency in the language. This can be done by taking the MGI English language proficiency test or providing scores from recognized English language tests such as IELTS or TOEFL.

It is essential to be aware that program-specific application requirements may include additional criteria. Applicants must carefully read and understand the information provided by MGI regarding the application requirements.

For any questions or concerns about the application requirements, applicants can contact the MGI admissions team for assistance. They are available to guide applicants through the application process and address any inquiries they may have.
