Nkangala TVET College was established in 2003 through the merger of the Witbank, Middelburg, Mpondozankomo, and CN Mahlangu campuses (formerly recognized as Technical Colleges) within the Nkangala district. In 2011, the Waterval Boven Campus was incorporated from Ehlanzen FET College. The establishment of the college followed the enactment of the FET Act by Parliament in 1996.
