In 2007, the Department of Higher Education and Training introduced the National Certificate (Vocational) NC(V) at public FET colleges. Upon completing the course, individuals holding a National Certificate or Nated Certificate gain the following skills:

- Public TVET institutions have their courses externally and independently quality-assured, often holding SABS ISO 9001:2008 certification, ensuring that students receive certified certificates that can be beneficial in starting their own ventures.
