UFS Application Fees

  • There is no application fee for the program. The application process is completely free of charge.

UFS Registration Fees

  • As of the time of writing this article, the University of the Free State (UFS) does not impose a registration fee. To cover housing and tuition costs, students are only required to pay a small deposit. We will provide updates when information regarding registration fees becomes available. If there are any changes to UFS registration fees, please refer to this page for the latest updates. Currently, applications for undergraduate programs for the class of 2024 are being accepted.
  • Before applying, please consult the 2024 Undergraduate Prospectus to ensure that you meet the minimum entrance requirements. All prospective students must complete an online application. Once your online application is complete and reviewed, you will be assigned a student number (reference number). It is important to note that having a student number, or reference number, does not guarantee admission to the University of the Free State.
  • For candidates retaking Grade 12 courses, the most recent results will be considered during the application process. If you have taken Grade 12 exams multiple times, you must combine the scores and submit them with your application. Candidates who have completed the IEB or SACAI National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations can apply online by selecting “National Senior Certificate” on the Results page. Candidates from the Class of 2012 must submit official copies of their Grade 11 transcripts.
  • Transfer students from other universities or tertiary institutions must disclose their previous coursework and upload an official copy of their academic record (if applicable) when submitting an application.
  • No undergraduate degree program at the University of the Free State requires the General Education Development (GED) test. South African universities (USAF) do not recognize the GED as equivalent to a grade 12 qualification (NSC/IEB/SACAI). GED holders who wish to pursue an undergraduate degree should obtain a grade 12 NSC/IEB/SACAI or international equivalent. Applicants who have not completed the South African University Examination Board’s SC/NSC/IEB must obtain USAF accreditation.
  • You can apply for a conditional exemption, foreign conditional exemption, or mature age conditional exemption online by clicking HERE or by emailing applications@usaf.ac.za. Before submitting an application, please review the prerequisites for the University Access Programs by CLICKING HERE (UAP).
