UNISA Application Requirements 2024-2025

In the academic year 2024-2025, the University of South Africa (UNISA) sets specific application requirements that applicants must meet to be eligible for admission. These requirements can vary based on the type of qualification the applicant is seeking. Below are the general criteria for undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications:

Undergraduate qualifications:

  • A National Senior Certificate (NSC) or an equivalent qualification granting admission to bachelor’s degree studies.
  • A minimum score of 50% in each of the four designated subjects is required for the chosen qualification (some programs may have additional subject prerequisites).
  • Mature Age Exemption for applicants aged over 23 years who do not meet the minimum admission requirements.

Postgraduate qualifications:

  • A relevant bachelor’s degree or an equivalent qualification with a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 on a 4-point scale.
  • Some qualifications may have additional requirements, such as work experience or professional qualifications.

Besides the mentioned requirements, applicants must also submit the following documents as part of their application:

  • Certified copies of academic transcripts and qualifications.
  • A certified copy of their ID or passport.
  • Proof of payment for the application fee.

For all new qualifications, applicants are required to upload the necessary documents, including:

  • Copies of their school qualifications (e.g., Senior Certificate, National Senior Certificate).
  • Copies of official tertiary academic records (if applicable) (internet copies are not accepted).
  • A copy of their ID document (for RSA students) or ID/passport (for international students).
  • A copy of their marriage certificate (if applicable) or divorce decree (if applicable).
  • Sworn translations of documents if not in English or Afrikaans.

UNISA strongly advises all students who applied before 2016 to upload the required documents. Failure to do so may result in application processing delays.

Please note that some qualifications may require additional documents, and UNISA reserves the right to request original documents and verify the accuracy of submitted documents at any time. Submitting fraudulent documents is considered an offense under the Student Disciplinary Code.

Applicants for new qualifications must submit all required documents by the closing date for applications. Documents submitted after the closing date will not be accepted.

UNISA does not provide scanners or electronic devices, so applicants should ensure that their documents are scanned and ready on an electronic device before starting the application process.
