You can find information about the admission requirements for international applicants in 2024 and 2025 on this page.

Online submissions for Worldwide and RPL (Acknowledgment of Earlier Learning) applications are now open.

Admission Requirements

To find the requirements for the different courses offered by CPUT, please refer to the Courses and Expenses section. Additionally, you may be asked to take various assessments to assist with the admission process. For students using the Cambridge system, the following requirements should be noted:

  • A minimum of five IGCSE and HIGCSE points must be achieved, with at least two at the HIGCSE level.
  • A passing grade in the primary language of instruction at the university (English or Afrikaans).
  • Specific passing scores: A, B, or C for IGCSE; 1, 2, or 3 for HIGCSE.
  • Any additional credentials from senior school will be evaluated.

Assessment of Foreign Credentials

All international undergraduate and postgraduate qualifications must first be assessed and certified by the South African Qualifications Authority (SAQA) before applying to study at CPUT. This requirement applies to both paper and online applications. It is the student’s responsibility to apply to SAQA as early as possible, as the process may take some time. You can find the SAQA website at www.saqa.org.za.

Starting in August 2014, SAQA will only accept online applications for overseas applicants. Please click here to submit your application. The following documents should be included:

  • All certificates, including the highest school qualification, are issued by the relevant examining authority.
  • Final certificates and transcripts for all academic work completed when applying for a post-graduate or other advanced degree.
  • Foreign-language documents must be accompanied by sworn English translations from a certified translator.

Linguistic Proficiency in English

  • To succeed in your studies, you must have a certain level of English proficiency. Acceptable proofs of proficiency (IELTS) include a TOEFL score of at least 550, an International Testing System score of 6.5, or a passing grade in English at the A- or O-level. Any additional English language qualifications from higher education will also be considered. The Fundani Centre for Higher Educational Development offers a mentorship program to help students improve their English proficiency in their field of study.
