CPUT Application for Accommodation 2024-2025

To facilitate the integration of new students, CPUT has arranged housing for all accepted students. The CPUT Application for Accommodation 2024-2025 is explained in greater detail on this page. Keep reading.

Application Process:

The CPUT Registration Office application form consists of two sections: housing and education. Both sections can now be completed simultaneously, allowing students to apply for housing and select their academic divisions independently. Students have the option to communicate, be assigned, and make choices within this process. Furthermore, the housing unit can receive applications from first-year students through its staff without requiring a contract. First-time applicants for residences are senior CPUT students who did not reside in the residences during the previous semester before submitting their application. The following criteria will determine the accommodation of first-time applicants:

Letter of registration:

  • The current letters sent by academic departments to potential first-year students need to be updated (Bellville Campus). These letters are issued by various departments and occasionally mention a Placement Officer who left the organization five years ago. To streamline the application process, housing matters should be delegated to the Housing Department.

First-Year Students:

First-year students should have access to at least 30% of the available housing units. During the selection period in October and November, first-year students who have successfully completed their matric exams will be selected and assigned housing. At the beginning of the year, first-year students can only be selected and assigned if their matric results are still pending. When considering their selection, the Housing Unit will take into account the following factors:

  • Application for accommodation
  • Proof of successful matric completion
  • Acceptance to study at CPUT

First-Time Applicants:

First-time applicants for residences are senior CPUT students who did not live in the residences during the previous semester before applying. The following criteria will be used to determine whether first-time applicants will be accommodated:

  • The pass rate of 60% in the subjects for which exams were taken.
  • Candidates must reside more than 60 kilometers away from the university.
  • Availability of space

First-year and returning students will be assigned open positions once first-year and returning students have been assigned.

Returning Students:

Returning residents are students who have previously resided in the residences for at least one semester. Returning students will be accommodated in their previous residences if they meet the following criteria:

  • The pass rate of 60% in the subjects for which exams were taken.
  • Submission of an accommodation request during the previous semester.

Students on Experiential Learning:

  • During experiential learning, no student can stay in a CPUT residence for more than six months. The housing units can only be occupied by students enrolled in the three-month experiential learning program. Students who requested accommodations during the previous semester will be allowed to return to their dormitories after completing their learning experience.
