St Augustine College of South Africa Online Application 2024-2025

The concept of establishing a Catholic university in South Africa was first proposed shortly after the official establishment of the Catholic Hierarchy in 1951. In 1993, a group of individuals began serious discussions on this matter. Professor Emmanuel NGARA and Fr. Buti TLHAGALE OMI, representing the South African Catholic Bishops’ Conference (SACBC), published a report in 1994 advocating for the establishment of a Catholic university. Their reasons included providing a strong ethical foundation for values-based education, guiding Catholics and Christians in today’s society, and encouraging Catholic intellectuals to contribute to the Church’s evangelism and renewal mission.

The Catholic University of Southern Africa Trust, later renamed St. Augustine College of South Africa Trust, was established on February 18, 1997, under the direction of Rt. Rev. Reginald ORSMOND, the Bishop of Johannesburg at the time. In November 1997, it was registered as a Section 21 Organization, authorized to provide higher education within the Catholic Academic Tradition (Registration No 1997/020522/08). The organization was granted both “Public Benefit” and “Not-for-Profit” status (NPO: 043-665; PBO 130001525).

The proposed institution was named “St. Augustine,” in reference to the African context, as St. Augustine of Hippo was one of the continent’s earliest and most significant Christian scholars.

For admission in 2024, applications open on May 1 and close on August 31.

Eligibility Requirements:

The eligibility requirements include being 18 years of age, being in good standing at the applicant’s home school, and having a GPA of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. GPAs below 3.0 will be considered on a case-by-case basis, requiring additional documentation as outlined in a specific section. Sophomore, Junior, or Senior standing at the start of the program is required, and applicants must have completed at least three semesters of coursework when they enroll at the university. First-year sophomores may also apply, but students with sophomore standing may not be eligible for certain local university courses. To register for the online system at https://www.staugustine.ac.za/, use your email address and create a password. Following this, you will receive an email containing a link to activate your account.
Click the link to activate your registration. Once activated, you will be redirected to ROSS, where you must click the Admission/Other buttons (it is crucial to choose the correct button). This will allow you to enter your first-step login and password.
After completing your application, click the button to accept the terms and submit it. Once submitted, you will need to pay the R100 application fee using the various options provided by the system.
When making the payment, email us the deposit slip and use your application number as a reference.
Upon completing the above steps, we will process your application and provide you with a student number and login information.
