The online application process for the University of the Free State (UFS) for the current academic year begins on 1 April and closes on 30 September. It is important for applicants to submit their applications within this timeframe to avoid any late submissions.

Postgraduate Applications

• Please be aware that all Postgraduate programs at the University of the Free State (UFS) are selection programs. To access the 2022 Postgraduate Prospectus, you can click HERE. For Honours, Masters, and Doctoral students, there may be instances where you need to apply directly to the department or pre-register. It is recommended to refer to the specific Faculty and department information to determine the application process. For more details, visit the respective Faculty and department web pages.
• All prospective students are required to complete the online application. Once you submit your online application and it is processed, you will receive a student number (Reference number). However, please note that receiving a student number does not guarantee acceptance to the University of the Free State. Admission is a separate evaluation process conducted by the relevant faculty.
• Before submitting your online application and uploading/emailing documents, it is advisable to visit the relevant faculty/department website to verify any additional documentation requirements. These may include a departmental application form, CV, motivation letter, reports, dissertation/thesis proposal, and more. • Applicants transferring from another university/tertiary institution should upload a complete academic record/transcript, degree/diploma certificate, and SAQA certificate (if holding a foreign/international qualification).
• Please note that Advanced Diploma qualifications are classified as undergraduate but are administratively processed as postgraduate due to previous studies involved.
