Arts and Humanities

  • The Arts & Humanities faculty offers a captivating selection of postgraduate studies at the Honours, Master’s, and Doctoral levels across its 13 departments. The faculty boasts esteemed scholars and maintains partnerships with institutions in Africa and beyond. It is recognized as one of the top research producers at UWC.

Community and Health Sciences

  • The Faculty of Community & Health Sciences (CHS), spanning two campuses, focuses on community-based, interprofessional teaching and research in the health and social sciences. It has gained a global reputation for excellence in education and research. CHS offers professional postgraduate programs through two centers, as well as postgraduate programs in six departments and three schools.

Dentistry

  • The Faculty of Dentistry, the largest dental training school in Africa, is a world-class oral health center dedicated to advancing oral health through excellence in teaching, learning, service, community engagement, and research. Our mobile dental clinics provide clinical care and education at various locations, including the Red Cross War Memorial Children’s Hospital, Groot Schur Hospital, Mitchell’s Plain Dental Clinic, Gugletu Dental Clinic, and the Ferofefa Health Train. The Mitchell’s Plain and Tygerberg Academic Oral Health Centers provide the necessary clinical infrastructure.

Economic and Management Sciences

  • The Economic and Management Sciences Faculty aims to be the leading faculty known for its excellence in relevant learning, teaching, and research, with the aim of influencing society through critical, engaged and applied scholarship. It strives to advance social, economic, political, and technological progress through teaching, learning, and critical research activities in the economics and management sciences of the digital age. The faculty offers a variety of postgraduate options across five faculties, two centers, two institutes, two schools, and two units, aligning with this mission.

Natural Sciences

  • The Faculty of Natural Sciences offers innovative and relevant learning and teaching programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. We foster an environment that encourages intellectual inquiry and discussion. Our faculty consists of active researchers who are recognized nationally and internationally as experts in their fields. We are committed to producing research that addresses the needs and challenges of our local communities, and the country, and has a global impact. The faculty offers a range of postgraduate options, including 12 Honours degrees, postgraduate diplomas, master’s, and doctoral programs in various disciplines.

Law

  • The UWC Law Faculty, established as an independent faculty in 1979, has a rich history of combating apartheid while delivering high-quality legal education. Many former employees and alumni of the faculty have held and continue to hold prominent positions in academia, the judiciary, parliament, the executive, the legal profession, and business. The faculty has approximately 2,400 students, including around 80 doctoral students and 280 master’s students. It has expertise in supervising doctoral degrees in various legal areas and offers specialized master’s degrees in law across different fields. The faculty also provides two postgraduate diplomas, accepting around 50 new students each year.

Education

  • The Faculty of Education offers a diverse range of professional and academic programs at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. These programs are designed to enhance the intellectual, academic, and professional skills of students pursuing careers in teaching and related fields. They encompass teacher education and training, higher education, vocational training, adult education, curriculum studies, comparative pedagogy, educational psychology, educational sociology, leadership and management in education, language education, science and mathematics education, and political science.
